As photographers, one of the greatest honors is when clients return year after year for us to document their family’s journey. Recently, I had the pleasure of reconnecting with one of my repeat families for a sunset photography session on the sugar white sandy shores of Gulf Shores, Alabama. The first time I met the Sulankes, they were a family of 3 with baby number 2 on the way. It was an absolute joy to meet their newest family member, now a toddler herself.
This beautiful family of four brought along a very special guest this time - grandma. The addition of Dad's mom made the session even more meaningful, as we captured multi-generational love against the backdrop of a soft, blue Gulf Coast sunset.
Family photography sessions with toddlers often invite stress on the part of the parents, but I promise that I’m prepared for whatever their little emotions (and hands) throw at me, both figuratively and sometimes literally. The newest member of the Sulanke family was no different than any other toddler. She took a while to warm up to me. She wasn’t interested in just “smiling for the camera.” And she didn’t have much interest in posed photos. Happily, her parents understand that “kids will be kids,” and they were willing to give her time to play, get used to me, explore the new beach, and capture some precious candid moments!
Repeat clients like this are more than customers—they become part of Finding Beauty Photography’s story. Watching your children grow, sharing laughs with you and them year after year, and creating timeless photographs that you’ll all cherish forever is what makes this the best job in the world! The light breeze, evening light, and gently crashing waves provided the perfect setting for natural, candid and posed moments, and so did this sweet family.
